BIO: Krishnan Swaminathan

NAME: Krishnan Swaminathan


Born in Madras, India, to a family of music lovers and avid amateur musicians, bass player Krishnan Swaminathan grew up listening to a dizzying variety of musical styles ranging from classical to pop, classic R&B, and rock.


After a precocious childhood spent dabbling in various forms such as Indian classical percussion, and piano; he picked up the electric bass in 2002. In a few years, he was playing and recording with various bands and individual artists on the local scene. After finishing university in his hometown, he moved to California to attend the bass program at Musician's Institute. The eighteen months spent at MI not only solidified his musical experience and grounding, but also opened up his horizons to an extremely complex and mercurial instrument; the upright bass. Upon graduation in the spring of 2011, he now lives and works in Los Angeles, playing as a band member and sideman with various contemporary artists, doubling up on the electric and upright.


In his spare time, he enjoys reading, the outdoors, soccer, good cuisine, movies, intelligent conversation, and Scotch whisky.
